The Nutrition Wellness Expert course is designed keeping in mind that along with food there is also lifestyle which influences the health of an individual and it is very important to “LOOK BEYOND” food to have a healthy and balanced life.

This course is designed to coach and guide students about the basics of Nutrition from the basics to the core of Food & Nutrition. Our main aim is to impart the right knowledge to the students as we progress to various levels so that student gets to understand the subject better & also get acquainted with various crucial topics on Health. It enables the students to develop indepth knowledge about the subject &help in keeping diseases at bay. The course is designed to enable students to apply the knowledge gained to become better healthcare professionals.

This 3 level Course is designed & structured by expert health care professionals,Registered Dietician,Certified Diabetes Educator, Yoga Therapist Mrs Sushila Sharangdhar and her team who have 30+ years of experience in field of Dietetics and Health services. The course provides extensive coverage of all facets of Nutrition for the enthusiastic & striving new nutrition professionals.

Course Contents:

LEVEL ONE- BASIC NUTRITION SCIENCE (6 weeks)

ENTRY Requirements: Minimum 12th Science

 

Orientation – Introduction –ABC’s of Nutrition

Lifestyle and its effect on health.

 

Module 1 – Human Body- Cell Structure and Function

  • Introduction to various systems in the body.

 

Module 2 – The Macronutrients

  • Carbohydrates.
  • Protein.
  • Fats.

 

Module 3- Energy- Transformation and Metabolism

  • Energy Balance in the Body.

 

Module 4 – The Micronutrients

  • Vitamins.
  • Minerals.
  • Phytochemicals.
  • Antioxidants.

 

Module 5 – Water and Fluid Balance

  • Water: it’s role and importance 
  • Body fluids 
  • Factors affecting imbalance 
  • Effects of imbalance 

 

Module 6 – Food Intake, Digestion and Absorption

  • Introduction 
  • Stages of food digestion and absorption 
  • Uses of food intake on the body
  • Effects of various nutrients

LEVEL TWO- NUTRITION IN PRACTICE (4 weeks) 

ENTRY Requirements: Minimum 12th Science and Level one completed

  • Nutrition during Lactation.
  • Nutrition during Infancy.
  • Nutrition during Childhood.
  • Nutrition during Adolescence.
  • Nutrition during Adulthood & Old Age.

 

Module 2: Weight Management

      • Body Weight Components.
      • Regulation of Body Weight.
      • Obesity & Overweight: Common problems encountered.
      • Underweight or Unintentional Weight Loss.
      • Management strategies, Fad Diets.

 

Module 3: Sports Nutrition and Supplements

  • Role of Macro & Micronutrients in Sports.
  • Antioxidants and Exercise.
  • Importance of Fluids and Electrolytes.
  • Overview of Sports Supplements.
  • Nutrition for Endurance.

 

Module 4- Fundamental Characteristics of a Nutrition and Lifestyle coach

  • Farm to Fork: Food Production and Quality.
  • Optimising Nutrition in Practice.
  • Nutrition for Wellness and Longevity.
  • Lifestyle for Wellness and Longevity.
  • Nutrition and Lifestyle Coaching in Practice.

 

LEVEL THREE ADVANCED DIET PLANNING (6 weeks)

ENTRY Requirements: Minimum 12th Science and Level one and two completed

 

Module 1 – Diet Planning, Use of Exchange List and Counselling Skills

    • Calculation of calorific & nutritive values of food.
    • Generating nutritive recipes with proper calorific values.
    • Calculation of individual patient’s calorie requirement.

 

  • Therapeutic Menu Planning&Patient Counselling.
  • Effect of processing on Nutritive value of foods.
  • Effect of cooking techniques on Nutritive value of foods.

 

Module 2 – Nutrition Care Process 

  • Preparing for Your Client.
  • Preliminary Client Information- lifestyle.
  • Evaluating Client Information and its Analysis.
  • Nutritional Suggestions and Nutrition Plan.
  • Setting Behaviour Goals and Creating Monitoring Strategies.

 

Module 3: Clinical Nutrition in Nutritional disorders

  • Nutritional deficiencies.
  • Prevention and control.
  • Dietary recommendations.

 

Module 4: Clinical Nutrition in Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD)

  • Nutrition in Endocrine Disorders: Diabetes Mellitus, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome(PCOS), Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD), Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism.
  • Nutrition in Cardiovascular Disease.
  • Nutrition in Hypertension.
  • Nutrition in Renal Disease.
  • Nutrition in Orthopaedic Conditions- Osteoporosis, Osteopenia, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis.
  • Miscellaneous –Gout, Kidney stones.
  • Nutrition In genetic disorders.
  • Nutrition in Food Allergy.
  • Nutrition in Immune disorders.

 

COURSE DESIGN: Weekly content will be in the form of PowerPoint presentations, case studies, videos and reference documents along with assignments and tests. 

At the end of completion of each level an online exam will be conducted.
